What do you get out of it?

One bill, split however the customer actually pays. Half in cash and half by UPI is a normal Indian transaction, and it belongs on one invoice with both amounts recorded — not two bills, and not a note to yourself.

How does it work?

  1. 1

Each payment is its own record

A payment carries its amount, its mode — cash, UPI, bank transfer, card — the date it landed and any note you add. Several payments can sit against one invoice.

  2. 2

    The balance follows automatically

Every payment records the balance remaining after it, so a part-paid bill always states what is still outstanding rather than leaving you to subtract.

  3. 3

Part payments today, the rest later

A customer paying half now and half at month end is the same mechanism: record what came in, and the invoice keeps the remainder as a live balance against them.

  4. 4

Loyalty points tender like a payment

Where a customer spends points, the rupee value is recorded against the bill as a payment of its own, so the invoice adds up and the source of every rupee is visible.

What situations does it handle?

Cash and UPI on the same sale

Record both. The bill shows two payments and a zero balance, which is what actually happened.

A refund after the sale

Payments carry a refund timestamp and a reference, so money going back out is recorded against the same invoice rather than disappearing from the trail.

A customer who pays across several visits

Add a payment each time. The ledger shows the sequence and the balance after each one.

How do you get more out of it?

  • Record the payment as it happens rather than at closing. A part payment reconstructed from memory at 9pm is the one that goes wrong.
  • Use the note field for anything unusual — a cheque number, who handed over the cash. It costs a second and answers questions weeks later.
  • Watch the outstanding balance per customer rather than per bill; that is the number that tells you who to chase.

Common questions

Can a customer pay part cash and part UPI on one bill?

Yes. Each payment is recorded separately against the invoice with its own amount and mode, and the balance updates after each one — so a split payment is one bill, not two.

How do I record a part payment?

Add the amount received and the mode. The invoice keeps the remainder as an outstanding balance against that customer, visible on their ledger until it is cleared.

Which payment modes are supported?

Cash, UPI, bank transfer and card are all recorded, along with a free note for anything you want to remember about how the money arrived.
