Start from the invoice you already made
An e-Way bill is built from an existing invoice — or from a purchase order for inward movement. Document number, date, both parties' GSTINs, addresses and state codes are carried across rather than re-keyed.

Wiseventory tells you what is missing first
Before anything is submitted, the consignor and consignee details are checked for the fields the portal requires — address, city, pincode and state code on both sides. Anything absent is listed back to you, so you fix it here instead of getting a rejection from the portal.

Generate against the GSTN system
Wiseventory is authenticated against the e-Way bill API and submits the request for you. This is a real integration, not a formatted printout you then copy somewhere else.

The number and validity come back to the invoice
The generated e-Way bill number and its validity date are stored against the record, and past bills stay listable — so when a vehicle is stopped, the details are on the same phone you billed from.
What situations does it handle?
Inward movement, not just sales
E-Way bills can be prepared from a purchase order as well as a sales invoice, which is what you need when you are collecting goods from a supplier rather than dispatching them.
Supply type and sub-type are explicit
The request carries supply type, sub-supply type and document type as separate fields, so a job-work movement or a branch transfer is described correctly rather than being forced into a plain sales shape.
A customer whose address you never captured
This is the most common reason an e-Way bill fails at the portal. Because validation runs before submission and names the missing field, you find out while the customer is still in front of you.

- Keep transporter IDs for the two or three carriers you use regularly to hand. Entering them at generation time is the last step before dispatch.
Common questions
Do I still need to log in to the e-Way bill portal?
Not for generating one from an invoice you raised in Wiseventory — that goes straight through to the GSTN system, so the bill is produced without you switching screens. You use your own e-Way bill credentials, which means the bill is issued under your registration exactly as it would be on the portal.
What happens if the customer's address is incomplete?
You are told before submission rather than after. The consignor and consignee are both validated for address, city, pincode and state code, and any missing field is reported back by name so you can fill it in and continue.
Can I generate an e-Way bill for goods I am bringing in?
Yes. Inward movement is prepared from a purchase order rather than a sales invoice, using the same flow and the same validation.
Is the e-Way bill number saved anywhere?
Yes. The generated number and its validity date are stored with the record, and previously generated bills remain listable — so you are not depending on an email or a screenshot when a vehicle is checked.
