Two errors a month. Five hundred rupees a fix.

Rakesh runs a hardware wholesale shop in Surat. Half his customers are in Gujarat — CGST plus SGST. The other half are scattered across Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh — that's IGST.

For two years he kept a printed cheat-sheet under the counter to remember which split applied to whom. He still got it wrong roughly twice a month. His CA charged ₹500 each time to fix the mismatch during GSTR-1 filing.

The frustrating part? It wasn't a hard problem. The first two digits of every GSTIN are the customer's state code. 24 is Gujarat. 27 is Maharashtra. The rule is mechanical. It just shouldn't be his job to remember it on every bill.

Now Rakesh picks the customer, scans the products, and prints the bill. Wiseventory reads the state code from the GSTIN, applies the right split, formats the invoice the way the GST portal expects, and rounds the total off to the nearest rupee. He hasn't needed the cheat-sheet in nine months.

What this GST invoice software actually does

The tax math, the formatting, and the printing — handled.

Auto CGST / SGST / IGST split

Wiseventory reads the state code from your customer's GSTIN and applies the right split before you reach for a calculator. Same state? CGST + SGST. Different state? IGST. No GSTIN? B2C, taxed correctly anyway.

HSN-aware rate suggestions

Tag a product with its HSN code once — rice (1006), hand tools (8205), mobile phones (8517) — and Wiseventory suggests the matching GST rate (0%, 5%, 12%, 18%, 28%). Pick the right one, save it on the product, and every future invoice uses it automatically.

Round-off + thermal/A4 printing

Round the total to the nearest rupee — the way Indian customers expect — and print to whatever hardware is in the shop. 2-inch thermal, 3-inch thermal, or a regular A4 office printer. All three are supported out of the box.

Four steps to a sealed invoice

Most shopkeepers run through this in under 10 seconds.

1

Add the product

Scan its barcode, search the name, or pick from your catalog. Stock count drops by one automatically.

2

Pick the customer

Existing B2B customer? Their GSTIN is pre-filled. Walk-in? B2C mode kicks in. Above the ₹2.5 lakh state threshold? You'll be prompted to capture details.

3

GST calculates itself

The right tax breakdown shows up on screen. Rates from HSN, split logic from state codes, round-off applied.

4

Print, email, or WhatsApp

Send the invoice to a thermal printer, the customer's email, or directly via WhatsApp. The PDF is filed for your records and GSTR-1 export.

Built for how Indian businesses actually bill

Whether you're running a single counter or a wholesale warehouse, the same invoice flow scales with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Real questions from Indian shop owners.

Is the GST invoice format compliant with CBIC rules?

Yes. Every Wiseventory invoice carries the mandatory fields the CBIC requires — supplier GSTIN, place of supply, HSN/SAC code per line, tax breakdown, invoice number in a sequential series, and the declaration. The format follows Rule 46 of the CGST Rules and works for B2B, B2C above the threshold, and export invoices.

How does the app know whether to apply CGST+SGST or IGST?

From the GSTIN. Every Indian GSTIN starts with a 2-digit state code — 24 is Gujarat, 27 is Maharashtra, 33 is Tamil Nadu. Wiseventory matches your business state to the customer's. Same state? CGST + SGST. Different state? IGST. The app shows you which split is being applied so there's no guesswork. Need to double-check a tax split manually? Our free GST calculator tool does the math for you.

What if my customer doesn't have a GSTIN — can I still bill them?

Yes. That's a B2C invoice. Wiseventory still applies the correct GST rate per product, prints a clean receipt, and books it for your monthly returns. Above the ₹2.5 lakh state-set threshold, you'll be prompted to capture the customer's name and state for compliance.

Where do I get the HSN code for my products?

The easiest path: search inside Wiseventory by product name and the app suggests matching HSN codes from the official 6-digit HSN database. You can also use our free HSN code search tool or check the CBIC rate schedule. Once you save the HSN against a product, you never enter it again.

Can I round off the invoice total like a paper bill?

Yes. Indian round-off is built in — toggle it on in settings and totals are rounded to the nearest rupee, with the round-off amount shown as a separate line. Your accountant gets the audit trail; your customer gets a clean number to pay.

Does the invoice include the place of supply automatically?

Yes. The place of supply is set from the customer's address — specifically the state portion. For B2B customers it's pulled from the GSTIN. For B2C customers above the threshold, it's captured at billing time. No manual entry needed for either case.

What happens if I edit an invoice after I've already filed GSTR-1?

Wiseventory advises against editing — once the GST period is filed, the proper fix is a credit or debit note, not an edit. The app will warn you, walk you through generating the right document, and link it back to the original invoice for your CA.

Is GST invoicing free in Wiseventory or do I have to upgrade?

GST invoicing is part of the core product — not a paid add-on, not a usage-capped feature. Both the free plan and paid plans include full GST invoicing, HSN-aware rate suggestions, CGST/SGST/IGST split, round-off, and PDF / thermal printing. The paid plans add things like API access, advanced reports, and priority support. See what's in each plan →
“I used to keep a printed cheat-sheet under the counter to remember which states needed IGST. Now I just pick the customer and print. My CA called me last month to ask why he had nothing to fix in the GSTR-1 reconciliation.”
